-----This Month in a Kenyan Apiary-----

The month of July continues to be cold and wet.  An important activity this month was to prune the trees and shrubs around the bee house to allow increase light and warmth into the house.  I have also covered hives with sacking materials for warmth.  I did notice that if I use a tin roof on a beehive inside a bee house that condensation builds up under the lid and as a result the top bars become wet and start to rot.  This is obviously not good for the hives or the bees!  We expect the honey season here in Nakuru to begin in September and run up to December/January.  We can’t wait for the season to begin – we enjoy delicious acacia honey with porridge, on bread and it’s really great with ice cream!

I will postpone the review of the Kenyan apiary promised last time to a later edition.
