The Kenya Honey Council
July 2003
From late 2002 to August 2003 beekeeping stakeholders in Kenya have
been meeting/working together to discuss their common interests in the
Kenyan beekeeping sector and the need for a common voice and a more coordinated
approach. The result has been the formation of the Kenya Honey Council
representing all the major stakeholders in the Kenyan beekeeping industry.
The objectives of the Council are to:
- Provide an umbrella forum for all stakeholders in the Kenyan
bee industry for the promotion, coordinating and safeguarding of
their activities and interests.
- Promote and facilitate growth and expansion
in the Kenyan bee sector to contribute to economic growth and poverty
reduction.
- Promote awareness of and education in Kenyan bee products
and beekeeping in Kenya.
- Promote quality standards and ethical practices
in the Kenyan bee sector.
- Facilitate exchanges of information between
members of the Council, and between the Council and simila international
organisations.
- Lobby on behalf of the members of the Council with the
Government of Kenya for favourable policies and accompanying measures
to support
growth and expansion in the Kenyan beekeeping sector.
- Lobby on behalf of the
members of the Council with international governments for favourable
trade terms for Kenyan bee products.
